Urology is a surgical speciality, covering the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the kidneys, urethra, bladder, prostate and male reproductive organs. Conditions include cancer, stones, infections, urinary difficulty, erectile difficulties and sub-fertility. It is mainly a surgical specialty with highly technical equipment including telescopes, laser, laparoscopic (keyhole) and robotic operations. The majority of our work is carried out in outpatients or short-stay day surgery. A small number of patients require more complex in-patient procedures. The department strives to maintain the highest clinical governance standards and patient-focused care, incorporating the latest advances in the field. We have recently introduced robotic surgery - one of only a few sites in the country.
