Laser Eye Surgery The Royal Bournemouth NHS Eye Unit offers a wide range of specialist services and is committed to providing an excellent local service to the residents of Dorset in the prevention and treatment of disorders of the eye. The Eye Unit was originally founded in 1887 and known as The Westbourne Eye hospital. In April 2000 the service was moved to a purpose built new site at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Ophthalmic services are provided from this purpose built eye unit with its own dedicated theatres and staff. Here you have access to highly specialised staff, facilities and equipment at all times.

  • Cataracts
  • Posterior Capsular Opacification (PCO)
  • Acute Glaucoma (Angle Closure)
  • Blepharitis (Inflammation of the Eyelids)
  • Allergic Conjunctivitis (Hayfever Eyes)
  • Eyelid Surgery
  • Fluorescein Angiography
  • Squint (Strabismus)
  • Chalazion or Meibomian Cyst (swelling on the eyelid)
  • Ectropion
